Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) makes it easy to set up, operate, and scale a relational database in the cloud. It provides cost-efficient and resizable capacity while automating time-consuming administration tasks such as hardware provisioning, database setup, patching and backups. It frees you to focus on your applications so you can give them the fast performance, high availability, security and compatibility they need.


Amazon RDS is available on several database instance types – optimized for memory, performance or I/O – and provides you with six familiar database engines to choose from, including Amazon Aurora, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle Database, and SQL Server. You can use the AWS Database Migration Service to easily migrate or replicate your existing databases to Amazon RDS.

Easy to administer


You can easily execute your notion of representation with Amazon RDS. Accessing your ready-to-go Relational Database can take place forthwith by using Amazon RDS Management Console, the AWS RDS Command-Line Interface, or directly via API calls. It is not required to operate your infrastructure or run and conduct database software maintenance.

Highly scalable


With only a few steps you can navigate and adjust your databases’ compute and storage resources or an API call and prevent any time-outs & interruptions. Offloading the read traffic from your primary database instance can be created by one or more Read Replicas which is permitted by many Amazon RDS engine types.

Available and durable


Amazon RDS operates on the same highly reliable infrastructure along with other Amazon Web Services. Cloning and duplicating data can take place concurrently to a standby instance in a distinct Availability Zone (AZ) when managing a Multi-AZ DB instance. To reinforce relatability for critical production databases, Amazon RDS has many other characteristics such as automated backups, automatic host replacement and database snapshots.



The most exigent database applications are supported by Amazon RDS. You have the choice to determine between two SSD-backed storage options: one optimized for high-performance OLTP applications, and the other for cost-effective general-purpose use. Furthermore, and at 1/10th the cost, Amazon Aurora contributes to performance equivalent to commercial databases.



Controlling network access to your database is easily made by Amazon RDS. In addition to that, this service allows you to carry out your database instances in Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC), in which you can connect to your actual IT infrastructure through an industry-standard encrypted IPsec VPN as well as enabling detaching your database instance. Encryption is also being offered for both at rest & in transit with Amazon RDS engine types.
